LAKESHORE HARVEST COUNTRY SCHEDULES FAMILY FARM
FEST
Lakeshore
Harvest Country, LLC, an agri-tourism trail located between South
Haven, Saugatuck and Fennville, announces the upcoming “Family
Farm Fest” on Saturday, July 26. Activities begin at
10:00am and conclude at 6:00pm.
Attendees can visit any of the Lakeshore Harvest Country’s
twelve participating farms/farm markets in any order
Family
Farm Fest is a family-oriented event that offers entertaining,
farm-based activities for all ages. Hands-on activities, games
for kids, craft projects and demonstrations, wine tasting and
u-pick opportunities are available at several participating
farms and farm markets.
Food options include a corn roast with brats, fresh baked
goods, cider, donuts, and ice cream. “This event is going to be
fun. It is a great
opportunity for the public to enjoy the rural countryside while
celebrating and learning about many Michigan grown and Michigan
made items”, says farm owner Dawn Soltysiak, Khnemu Studio on
Fernwood Farm.
The
day features a bingo game that rewards kids for participating in
events at different farm sites. A farm-based photo contest
is also open to all ages.
Wagon rides, wool spinning demonstrations, a cherry
pit-spitting contest, and a hand-quilting demonstration are some
activities scheduled for Family Farm Fest. Also on tap are vegetable
games and crafts, a talk on beekeeping, a birdhouse
gourd- decorating demonstration, and a chance to watch baby
chicks hatch.
Participating
farms located in Lakeshore Harvest Country include Crane Orchards,
Dutch Farm Market, Earl’s Farm Market and Bakery, Stephenson’s
Farm Market, Dee’s Lakeshore Farm,
Barden’s Farm Market, and Overhiser Orchards. Khnemu Studio on Fernwood
Farm. Two farms on
the trail that are generally not open to the public, will be
open for this special
day: Dailey Packaging
LLC , showing how blueberries are harvested, and Improvisational
Farmer, LLC, featuring zany games involving vegetables and an up
close look at cows and pigs. A schedule of events is
available at any of the farms or online at www.LakeshoreHarvestCountry.com.
“This
is a great chance to see farms in operation,” project manager Julie
Cowie says. “We
have many special activities planned to show people of all ages
how fruits and vegetables grow, what farm animals need to
thrive, and how fresh produce moves from the field to the kitchen
table.” Ample
vege- tables and fruits, jams, honey, and syrups will be
available for purchase, along with u-pick blueberries,
raspberries, and some early varieties of peaches.
